Day in the Life with Julie’s Family – West Hollywood, CA
The dog is the first to greet me, and she’s clearly a part of the family. She checks me out to make sure this stranger with the big camera is safe to have around the baby and then flops down at my feet for a belly rub. I always laugh when people mention they have a dog and ask if I’m ok with that because I truly love dogs and photographing them as part of the family.
Julie and I met at a writing workshop when my son was just one year old. I was raw with new mama energy and had to use my breaks to sneak off and pump but was so happy to reconnect with my creative self and be in the company of adults. It felt very full circle to now be at Julie’s home to photograph her family and four month old baby.
He hadn’t napped that morning and they were feeling nervous about his mood, but one of the beauties of a documentary style shoot is that any behavior is ok. His tiredness gave me lots of opportunities to capture his sweet sleepy snuggles and his inherently good nature shone through.
This baby is 8 months now, and Julie told me the photographs already make her cry to see how little he was. I like to think about how looking at them in ten years will make her feel.
Are you interested in having pictures that tell the real story of your family’s days? I’d love to talk.
